A Beautiful Sunset

Tonight I watched the sunset from the Santa Monica pier. The past week has been really rainy, but it cleared up today to leave us with a gorgeous view. I could see clear across the bay to Catalina Island and beyond. The pier was jam packed at sunset, yet strangely quiet. Everyone was mesmerized by the orange sun sinking into the navy blue water and the only sound was a violinist performing a hauntingly beautiful tune. I felt a sense of camaraderie with the crowd, as if we were all silently asking each other, “How did we get so lucky to live in a place like this?”

I hope you are able find beauty around you this long weekend friends. Have a good one.

Saturday Night Formal Photos

img_1690On Saturday night, it seemed like half the school gathered on the Malibu Pier for photos before heading off to their respective sorority dances. While I’m no longer in a sorority, I went to take pictures of my many beautified friends and their dates! I was the press for the event, if you will. The sun was just sinking below the waterline and I was desperate to get in as many shots as I could before it disappeared completely. Below are just a few if you’d like to see!img_1606img_1613img_1628^What a beautimg_1632img_1634img_1635img_1639img_1643img_1645img_1647img_1650img_1653img_1657^Coincidence that they both wore purple dresses and black chokers? Happy Weekend!

DSC_0331.JPG Hey there friends! I’m sorry it’s been a bit quieter around here this week- my life definitely hasn’t been quiet, that’s for sure! There are seasons where school is all consuming, and others where I have a bit more time on my hands to pursue my passions, like this blog. Hopefully I will have a bit more breathing room next week to whip up some killer posts! In the meantime, enjoy these photos I took last night when I should have been studying :p

DSC_0358.JPGDSC_0396.JPGDSC_0468.JPGWhat are your plans for the weekend? Mine include pumpkin carving, a halloween party at which I will be dressed as Little Red Ridding Hood, and sleep. Lots and lots of sleep. I’ll meet you back here on Monday before we know it!

California, Why Are You So Beautiful?!

IMG_9909
California, why are you so beautiful?! In an attempt to combat my post-abroad blues, I am trying to capture and appreciate the beauty of my home, which isn’t hard! And as mad as I am that it is 90 degrees in October with no signs of cooling off, I am also so grateful to be able to still go to the beach and enjoy the cool waters of the pacific. These pictures I snapped this past weekend are from Manhattan beach, the town next to my home town of El Segundo. There’s nothing more I could say to convey the stunning beauty of this place, so I’ll let the pictures do the talking!IMG_9850unnamed-9unnamed-7unnamed-6unnamed-4unnamed-2IMG_9964IMG_9959IMG_9954IMG_9940IMG_9931IMG_9911IMG_9910IMG_9900IMG_9892IMG_9891IMG_9888IMG_9886IMG_9881IMG_9879
Question of the Day
Sometimes I am only aware of this world’s beauty when I travel, instead of noticing the details in my every day environment. Do you struggle to find beauty in your own backyard? What are some ways you combat that tendency?

Happy Weekend!

IMG_2334.JPGHello friends, I hope you are enjoying a slow Saturday morning, sipping coffee and watching cartoons (do people still do that? I hope they do)! I’m taking my sweet time this weekend after a crazy busy week of school, work and rushing for a sorority!

Last night was my definition of a perfect Friday night. No, it didn’t include any wild toga parties or big adventures, but it was just what I needed. A friend and I ate dinner at Chipotle, grabbed McFlurries at McDonalds, and headed to the beach to watch the sunset (pictured above). There’s something about being near the ocean that makes for good conversation, don’t you agree? Then we went back to my house and sat on my balcony laughing and talking for a long while. It was chicken soup for the soul, a deep breath, a moment to reset.

What are your weekend plans? Can you believe it’s almost October? I sure can’t. The holidays will be upon us before we know it! Have a good (relaxing) one friends.
