Happy weekend friends! One week of school down, six left to go. Lately I’ve been having fun combing through old black and white photos like the one above to see what gems I can find. I don’t know why, it’s just so inspiring! Photography is incredible.
Anyways, I don’t have much planned for this weekend– brunch with a friend, homework, a little shopping perhaps. But next weekend is Easter, and two of my friends from Germany are visiting me and my family! I could not be more excited. It’s been so long since I’ve seen anyone from my summer in Hildesheim and I miss them desperately.
Well, have a good one friends and I’ll meet you back here next week!
Last year I read the book Wild by Cheryl Strayd, a personal account of her solo-hike along the Pacific Crest Trail, where she walked over 1,000 miles from the Mexican to the Canadian boarder. When she started out on this journey, she was utterly broken in every way- newly divorced, unemployed, sleeping around, using Heroine, and deeply grieving the loss of her mother to cancer. By the end of the trek, she had walked herself back to wholeness. She had wrestled with her demons and won, rediscovering the woman her mother always wanted her to be. At one point along the trail, Cherly remembers something her mother always used to say, something that originally annoyed her but now brought her comfort. She said, “There’s a sunrise and a sunset every day, and you can choose to be there for it – you can put yourself in the way of beauty.”
And that’s exactly what I did this week. I chose to wake up early to attend Surf Convocation, a weekly gathering of christians from my school who praise god on the beach during the sunrise. As difficult as it was to drag myself out of bed at 6:00am, I am so glad I put myself in the way of beauty. Sometimes creation demands to be marveled in. The rest of my week included bowling night, work, essay writing, and more work. Fun stuff. This weekend is shaping up to be pretty busy as well, but it’s nothing I can’t handle. Bring it on! I wish you focus, productivity and success these next two days. But above all, I hope you cross paths with beauty this weekend!
Question of the Day
Have you consciously put yourself in the way of beauty lately? What keeps you energized and refreshed during the week?
Hello friends, I hope you are enjoying a slow Saturday morning, sipping coffee and watching cartoons (do people still do that? I hope they do)! I’m taking my sweet time this weekend after a crazy busy week of school, work and rushing for a sorority!
Last night was my definition of a perfect Friday night. No, it didn’t include any wild toga parties or big adventures, but it was just what I needed. A friend and I ate dinner at Chipotle, grabbed McFlurries at McDonalds, and headed to the beach to watch the sunset (pictured above). There’s something about being near the ocean that makes for good conversation, don’t you agree? Then we went back to my house and sat on my balcony laughing and talking for a long while. It was chicken soup for the soul, a deep breath, a moment to reset.
What are your weekend plans? Can you believe it’s almost October? I sure can’t. The holidays will be upon us before we know it! Have a good (relaxing) one friends.
Hey friends, how was your weekend? Early Saturday morning I participated in Pepperdine’s annual Step Forward Day, an initiative to mobilize students and send them out in the community to serve. My group painted a Boys and Girls club in a nearby town, which I thoroughly enjoyed, although it was tiering work! Saturday evening I worked as an usher for a show at campus theater, specifically a Benefit concert for Syrian refugees. The pianist who performed was only nineteen and was one of the youngest people ever admitted to Julliard! What have I been doing with my life for the past twenty years? I’m way behind! 🙂
Sunday has been filled with little errands, homework, and Netflix. I’m feeling a bit under the weather, so I’m trying to rest up before a busy week. I’m rushing for a sorority, which will be time consuming but fun!
How was your weekend? Do you have any fun plans for the days ahead? See you back here soon friends.
