Well hello there friends, how are you? This week has literally flown by. I cannot believe I’ve been in school for four weeks now. Summer will be here before we know it (wishful thinking? maybe…). On this gorgeous Friday morning, I thought I’d write out a list of ten little things that made me happy recently to kick off the weekend:
- Latte Macchiatos. I used to drink these every day in Germany, and Starbucks just recently introduced theirs here!
- Movie nights with girlfriends.
- Baked goods of any type.
- Discovering this new podcast.
- Checking things off my to-do list like a boss.
- Staying up too late to finish a good book.
- Catching a whiff of someone’s cologne or perfume.
- The New York Times crossword puzzle.
- Taking pride in something I’ve written.
- Scary movies.
What are your plans for this weekend? So far the only thing on my agenda is a movie night tonight with some girlfriends. Have a good one!
You know what I thought I’d try today? A round up of my favorite links from around the web! Is it just me, or has the internet been particularly good lately? Below is a list of a few of my top finds this week.
In other news, life has been pretty good lately. I went to a friends 1920’s themed birthday party on Tuesday dressed as a flapper (pictured above). I looked pretty dapper, if I do say so myself! I also had a big work event this week which went off without a hitch *insert big sigh of relief here*. Tonight is the Pepperdine Film Festival ReelStories, where they show student made films on a variety of topic. My little brother is coming and I can’t wait!

TGIF, am I right?! What a week it has been. Time lately has been simultaneously flying by and crawling by. On Wednesday I went to the Malibu Pier, my happy place, to take a deep breath and spend some time by the sea. It always does me good. Thursday started off rough with a faulty alarm clock (oops) and me running to class in my pajamas…#noregret. Tonight I am going to a Haunted Hayride in Hollywood and Saturday includes plans to visit a pumpkin patch! Gotta soak up fall while we still can, or at least SoCal’s lame version of fall. What’s on the docket for you this weekend? I’d genuinely like to hear! Have a good one friends.
Last year I read the book Wild by Cheryl Strayd, a personal account of her solo-hike along the Pacific Crest Trail, where she walked over 1,000 miles from the Mexican to the Canadian boarder. When she started out on this journey, she was utterly broken in every way- newly divorced, unemployed, sleeping around, using Heroine, and deeply grieving the loss of her mother to cancer. By the end of the trek, she had walked herself back to wholeness. She had wrestled with her demons and won, rediscovering the woman her mother always wanted her to be. At one point along the trail, Cherly remembers something her mother always used to say, something that originally annoyed her but now brought her comfort. She said, “There’s a sunrise and a sunset every day, and you can choose to be there for it – you can put yourself in the way of beauty.”
And that’s exactly what I did this week. I chose to wake up early to attend Surf Convocation, a weekly gathering of christians from my school who praise god on the beach during the sunrise. As difficult as it was to drag myself out of bed at 6:00am, I am so glad I put myself in the way of beauty. Sometimes creation demands to be marveled in. The rest of my week included bowling night, work, essay writing, and more work. Fun stuff. This weekend is shaping up to be pretty busy as well, but it’s nothing I can’t handle. Bring it on! I wish you focus, productivity and success these next two days. But above all, I hope you cross paths with beauty this weekend!
Question of the Day
Have you consciously put yourself in the way of beauty lately? What keeps you energized and refreshed during the week?
Happy Friday friends! How was your week? Mine was full of surprises. At 6:30am on Wednesday morning, I was ‘kidnapped’ by my sorority, driven to the beach, and encouraged to jump in the water with the rest of my new sisters! Luckily, it wasn’t too cold, and actually provided a refreshing start to my day. I got more done before 8am than I usually do in 24 hours! Another nice surprise came when I got an A on my test (not to brag or anything, but my essay on Mesopotamia was pretty dang good..haha!). I’m spending this weekend at home to celebrate my dad’s 5?th birthday and to see my cousin and uncle’s baptisms on Sunday.
What are you up to this weekend? Is the weather nice and fall-ish where you live? It is in the 90’s here and it’s making me mad! Where are you Fall? Hurry on up.
See you back here soon friends.
