Little Letter

Dear Fall,
Can’t you visit SoCal, even just for a little? Summer doesn’t seem to want to leave but I’m eagerly awaiting your arrival. My scarves are bored just hanging limp in my closet!

img_9481

Dear Polaroid,
Why do you take such over-exposed pictures sometimes? I’m always disappointed when I wait and wait but you never develop properly. Your film is much too expensive for these games!

Dear Blog,
I love you. I never thought I could grow so attached to a non-existent ‘place’ in cyber space. It’s so fun to look back in time and reflect on all the places I’ve seen and things I’ve experienced over the last three years.

Dear Graduation,
I simultaneously can’t wait for you to come and am dreading your arrival. Lots of weird, mixed emotions over here…

Dear Parents,
Thanks for visiting me this week and taking me out to breakfast! I can’t wait to spend the first weekend in November with you in Texas.

img_9509

Dear Coffee,
You sustain me. I don’t know what I’d do with out you sweet, dark one.

Dear “New Girl,”
Season 5 on Netflix is cracking me up. You are hilarious.

img_9516

Dear Money,
Somehow you always disappear. One moment you’re in my wallet and the next you’re gone! It blows my mind to think that soon I will (hopefully) have a steady income.

Dear Sleep,
I value you more and more each passing day. How do people function with less than eight hours?

img_9518
Dear Sunsets,
Thanks for being particularly beautiful lately. I appreciate it.

P.s. I got the idea for this post from one of my favorite blogs Love Taza. And these photos are from a few weeks ago when we went out for a friend’s 21st birthday!

A Weekend with Alena

img_9227I picked my friend Alena up from the airport on Friday afternoon and we headed to Manhattan Beach to hang out until traffic died down. We became friend in Hildesheim two summers ago, and she just finished a six week internship in Vancouver, Canada and decided to explore the US for a little while before flying home. I always enjoy playing tour-guide when friends come into town, as it helps me rediscover and take pride in my own city! We did a few different things this weekend, below are a few photos if you’d like to see.img_9231img_9244^Personally I think I look a little wacko in this photo, what with the slouchy overalls and blurry face haha! But I never have many photos of myself on the blog since I’m always behind the camera, so I thought I’d include it.img_9250img_9251^On Saturday we went to the beach in Malibu. I went in the water for the first time all year– I couldn’t let the warm water pass without jumping in at least once! That would be tragic and irresponsible as a native Californian :pimg_9252img_9267^You could say Alena was excited about the beachimg_9290img_9296img_9300img_9325img_9329img_9365^On the way back we stopped by Pepperdine’s 9/11 flag memorial. Every September they place a flag on the ‘front lawn’ for each person that lost their life in the attacks. A Pepperdine alumna was on the plane headed for Washington DC, and both his daughters currently attend Pepperdine. I find the display beautiful and sobering.img_9374img_9385img_9394^On Sunday after church we went to Smorgasburg, the new LA version of the famous food market in Brooklyn, New York. It has only been open since June, and houses booths of food and local handmade artisan goods. It is opened every Sunday from 10am-5pm and is located in at the Alameda Produce Market downtown. img_9399img_9410img_9412img_9419^How cute is this little trailer shop? Never mind that a T-Shirt was like $50…img_9425img_9446img_9450^Weird donuts are my love language…img_9452img_9457img_9464Well friends, have a great week. I’m headed to Texas on Wednesday to visit family!

This (Pretty) Family of Mine

Screen Shot 2016-07-07 at 12.52.28 PMBefore I left in May, we took a few family photos for my mom’s belated birthday present. Our family friend Safeena Padder of Little Boat Photography was kind enough to take them– and isn’t she incredibly talented?! She can make even a motley crew like us look good :p If you’re looking for a friendly, affordable photographer who knows how to make possibly awkward situations funny and relaxing, Safeena is your girl! I thought I’d share a few photos with ya’ll if you’re interested.Screen Shot 2016-07-07 at 12.52.48 PM^Attempting to capture us all in the air at once…easier said than done.Screen Shot 2016-07-07 at 12.54.58 PMScreen Shot 2016-07-07 at 12.55.46 PM

And my pretty mama 🙂Screen Shot 2016-07-07 at 12.56.33 PM^Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.Screen Shot 2016-07-07 at 12.40.35 PMScreen Shot 2016-07-07 at 12.40.51 PM^Probably one of my favorites. We were reenacting a photo we took ten years earlier when we first moved to El Segundo! So much and somehow so little has changed since then.Screen Shot 2016-07-07 at 12.41.10 PM^Siblings casually strolling along the beach at 7am…Screen Shot 2016-07-07 at 12.41.33 PMScreen Shot 2016-07-07 at 12.41.50 PM
^My favorite guys around (plus you too Luke!)Screen Shot 2016-07-07 at 12.42.35 PM
^You did good parents, you did goodScreen Shot 2016-07-07 at 12.42.49 PM^The tough Lambert guys. My dad looks like he might kill someone shortly after this photo….Screen Shot 2016-07-07 at 12.43.13 PMPeople always say I look exactly like my mom, but I could never quite see it. But after examining these photos, I can definitely see the resemblance! We are not one of those ‘cookie-cutter’ families who look exactly alike, but I can see the family resemblance in all of us in various ways. We are cut from the same cloth. And I think it’s a good cloth if I do say so myself 🙂

Happy Weekend

Well hello there friends! I literally cannot believe another week has flown by. I only have six weeks left of school. You hear? Six weeks! How is that legal?

It was a nice week. I snapped this photo during an impromptu stop by the beach to watch the sunset. And yes, I realize how spoiled that sentence sounded. I’m headed to a German restaurant this evening (yay Deutschland!) and can’t wait to devour a bratwurst. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to drink beer for three more months and three days (but who’s counting?)…

Have a wonderful, peaceful weekend friends and I’ll meet you back here in no time.

A Poem for your Wednesday

God’s Favorite Creation

The God who made the galaxies, the mountains,
The rivers and the oceans
Who shaped the heavens with his fingertips
And breathed air into life

The Lord who crafted the canyons, deep and dark,
Moulded the fields of flowers
To match the birds in the sleepy forests,
Chirping a melody he carefully composed

The Father who spoke this earth into existence
Knew something was missing.

He knew this planet needed one of you, too–
A lanky boy of skin and bone
With dusky brown hair and inky eyes
A gentle heart and a mild disposition.

A boy with oddly red skin and large hands
To pluck guitar strings
Or caress a girl’s chin.

Of all the realms in this vast universe,
With their supernovas, black holes and constellations
You, by far, are my favorite creation.

And surely, God would agree.

Happy Weekend Friends

Last year I read the book Wild by Cheryl Strayd, a personal account of her solo-hike along the Pacific Crest Trail, where she walked over 1,000 miles from the Mexican to the Canadian boarder. When she started out on this journey, she was utterly broken in every way- newly divorced, unemployed, sleeping around, using Heroine, and deeply grieving the loss of her mother to cancer. By the end of the trek, she had walked herself back to wholeness. She had wrestled with her demons and won, rediscovering the woman her mother always wanted her to be. At one point along the trail, Cherly remembers something her mother always used to say, something that originally annoyed her but now brought her comfort. She said, “There’s a sunrise and a sunset every day, and you can choose to be there for it – you can put yourself in the way of beauty.”

And that’s exactly what I did this week. I chose to wake up early to attend Surf Convocation, a weekly gathering of christians from my school who praise god on the beach during the sunrise. As difficult as it was to drag myself out of bed at 6:00am, I am so glad I put myself in the way of beauty. Sometimes creation demands to be marveled in.  IMG_9993IMG_0006IMG_0004IMG_0008IMG_0013IMG_0017IMG_0018The rest of my week included bowling night, work, essay writing, and more work. Fun stuff. This weekend is shaping up to be pretty busy as well, but it’s nothing I can’t handle. Bring it on! I wish you focus, productivity and success these next two days. But above all, I hope you cross paths with beauty this weekend!

Question of the Day
Have you consciously put yourself in the way of beauty lately? What keeps you energized and refreshed during the week?
