Friends in High Places

My family recently hosted a man named Maksm from Eastern Siberia. He lives in a little town on the shore of Lake Baikal, just above Mongolia. It was so interesting to hear about his family, job, house, etc. He was definitely impressed by Southern California, and hopes to return one day, possibly to live. I can’t believe I got to eat dinner with someone so far removed yet to similar to me! It is always healthy to be reminded that people are basically the same everywhere, no matter what stereotype or the media or others may tell you. Traveling and meeting new people widens your point of view and shifts your perspective.
